I was pleased to see in the news yesterday that the DUI charges against Dale Cardwell were dropped. When he was first arrested I analyzed his case in this blog and said that refusing the breathalyser was a very smart move. "Since Dale was already on his way to jail for the night, he was smart to refuse the test. If he blew over the limit and the results were used to convict him of DUI, he would have been looking at jail for up to a year."

I also said the fact he did not move his car was really the only thing the cops had on him: "Not moving his car when the light turned green--- This IS his case. He was pulled over for not moving when a light turned green. A little more attention on driving (as opposed to changing the radio station, lighting a cigarette, answering a phone) would have helped."

Now, he has since released a statement saying he was busy texting at the light which is why he didn't move his car. Texting cost him a lot: a night in jail, the expense of a lawyer, his reputation-- which for someone in his field is incredibly valuable. Now, as part of his sentence (for texting and driving), he is going to make a PSA talking about the dangers of texting and driving. Well, I'm just glad it didn't turn out worse. And if Dale ever needs help not answering his phone, he should read my blog on devices that help you stop texting while driving!
