Sometimes even the best of lawyers doesn't achieve the desired result due to difficult facts, a bad judge, or unrealistic expectations. Communication is key to making sure you are happy with whom you hire.1. Poor CommunicationDoes your lawyer return phone calls or emails on a same-day or at least 1-day turnaround? Does he have a good reason when he doesn't? Does he copy you on important correspondence, orders, and pleadings? Note: your idea of speedy communication may be unrealistic. Make sure you both agree on a communication plan before you hire that person. 2. NeglectDoes your lawyer work on your case in a reasonably timely manner? Do you both agree what "reasonably timely" means? 3. Misses important deadlinesIf your lawyer misses deadlines or forgets court dates, you should seriously consider obtaining new counsel. 4.
